The gardens of Frida Kahlo: Art, Garden, Life, photographed by Cassandra Giraldo
The New York Botanical Garden has staged a Frida Kahlo exhibit like no other. Frida Kahlo: Art, Garden, Life explores the artist’s love of and influences in the natural world, and features a number of her original works as well as photos from her life in Mexico. Those alone would make this worth a visit. But curator Adriana Zavala and the team at NYBG have outdone themselves by recreating the magnificent gardens at Kahlo’s famed home in Mexico City, La Casa Azul, where she was born and raised, lived with husband Diego Rivero and eventually died. No detail was overlooked — from the pyramid garden sculpture, painted by Rivera, to the very blooms, flora and cacti that surrounded Kahlo all her life. Frida Kahlo: Art, Garden, Life is on view till November.
