Painting by Marcia Hafif, titled: 72., March 1965, 1965
Tory loves color, so it’s no surprise that some of her favorite artists were experts in filling large canvases with bold hues. The Whitney’s latest exhibit, Spilling Over: Painting Color in the 1960s, features paintings from the 1960s and early 1970s by an incredible array of artists, many of whom have inspired Tory over the years — Josef Albers, Helen Frankenthaler, Ellsworth Kelly, Morris Louis, Kenneth Nolan…The list goes on. Go see it for yourselves. For us, it passed with flying colors.
Robert Reed, titled: Plum Nellie, Sea Stone, 1972
Kenneth Noland, titled: New Day, 1967
Painting by Josef Albers, titled Homage to the Square: “Wait”, 1967
