We were excited to see an all-female reboot of Ghostbusters, trolls be damned. Our interests were piqued when talk bubbled up, late last year, about a possible woman in the role of 007. And you bet we’ve been counting down the days till the Ocean’s 8 spin-off in June, starring eight of Hollywood’s XX-chromosomed heavyweights.

So we were positively delighted to stumble upon the City of Women map, originally seen in Nonstop Metropolis by Rebecca Solnit and Joshua Jelly-Schapiro, now available as a solo poster. It’s brilliant.

The map reimagines New York City’s subway map, with every single stop named after an inspiring female figure. The result is an incredible tapestry of women who have shaped our culture and nation. Lincoln Center is rechristened Janet Collins, after the pioneering African American ballerina; the station at Times Square, after renowned stage actress Sarah Bernhardt. That the map, illustrated by Molly Roy, doesn’t discriminate based on industry or place in history only adds to the appeal — everyone gets their due, from Dr. Ruth to Ruth Bader Ginsburg, Beyoncé to Billie Jean King, Anaïs Nin to Maya Lin, Susan B. Anthony to Salt, Pepa and Spinderella.
